Western Film and Television Oral History Collection
Scope and Contents
The Western Film and Television Oral History collection is a product of the Oral History Film and Television Western Program, a project of the Autry Museum of the American West in conjunction with Gene Autry Entertainment. The purpose of the program is to conduct and record interviews of individuals who were integral to the creation of the film and television Western genre. The interviewees were largely active during a "Golden Age" of Western films and television shows from the 1950s to late 1970s. The interviews were conducted by Maxine Hansen, Executive Assistant to Mrs. Gene Autry, with the assistance of Boyd Magers, from 2014 to 2016.
The collection includes correspondence documenting the transfer of recordings to the Autry Library and Archives, biographical information about the interviewees as well as the CDs, DVDs, and flash drives containing the recorded interviews. The interviews were conducted both in-person at Gene Autry Entertainment office and over the phone. The in-person interviews included video recording and the phone interviews were audio recordings.
