George St. Clair Letters
Scope and Contents
This is a collection of sixty-five letters, most in their original envelopes, to George St. Clair. This collection includes a letter from and signed by Charles Darwin (SWML-25) and one from Oliver Wendell Holmes (SWML-58). Many of the letters are from Bishops and Archbishops and many from people in the scientific field. There is also a list of many of St. Clair's publications (SWML-27), and a flyer for his last book, which was published after his death (SWML-65). Several of the letters are responses to St. Clair’s request for a position. The responses do not indicate if St. Clair’s initial requests were solicited or unsolicited. One of the letters (SWML.46a) looks like it was for some type of secretarial position. There are letters about the "Palestine Exploration Fund". There are also letters of recommendation for St. Clair to be appointed as a librarian and an issue of the Southwest Society Bulletin #7.
